INFO ON TRUK |
Truk Lagoon, at long last we were here. After the last visit 2 years ago, it was suggested we return and do the deeper, less explored wrecks. What better way to do it than from the Truk Aggressor. A floating gin palace, with a great crew, in a wreck divers paradise... worth every penny.
The dive deck of the Aggressor I was lucky to have the previous week on the Thorfinn doing recreational diving and catching up on the guys who came 2 years ago. Click here for a write up on that week.
The good ship SS Thorfinn A lot has changed in the last 2 years, new decompression theory, new equipment and a growing awareness of team diving based around the Doing It Right principles. We don't claim to be experts in this, we are just learning as we go along from sources on the Internet, and trying the ideas out as we get the time and money.
The stage drop prior to a penetration The Aggressor has a normal program for Deep Weeks based around advice they received from TDI, this was the first time any group had dove manifolded doubles and bought helium. This involved a significant amount of extra work for the crew, such as breaking down the tanks, getting the helium set up etc etc. It's not something they want to do every week, as 99% of their business is normal recreational diving.
Steve on the 'Love Beast' I doubt they will run a week like ours again, as its a radical departure from their normal way of doing things. The good news is that the Blue Lagoon Dive shop is setting itself up for Trimix as we speak, through the efforts of Simon Pridmore in Guam. So anyone who wants to dive mix in Truk should contact Blue Lagoon, as they are your only option.
Tie off in the engine room of the Aikoku Enjoy the site and if you're thinking of going to Truk, then sell the house, shoot the dog, quit the job and just go. Its worth it. Jerry |
