Today is our first dive on the Aikoku. The front of the ship has completely vanished due to the force of the explosion which sunk her with massive loss of life. We elect to visit the holds where the Japanese Navy had attempted to recover most of the remains and see what's left. I was struck by the huge number of shoe soles that still remain as a testimony to what it must have looked like before the recovery effort.
The Aikoku is a great stage dive, 60 m for 30 mins and back on the boat with enough back gas for a small top off and away you go for dive 2 with a good mix.
