Helium

Simon Pridmore of Professional Sports Divers in Guam, solved all the gas logistics of getting the He to Truk, he can also provide a 24hr service to send over anything he has in stock from Guam, just in case.

Guam is also a good stopover on the way with a few wrecks of its own.

Truk Aggressor 11

This was the first time that the Aggressor had a technical group that bought manifolds and helium. They just don't have the exposure to current thinking, and they were a little wary of what we wanted to do.

After we convinced them we knew what we were doing, they went out of their way to assist us in every way.

We had a great time and a big thanks goes to Capt Stuart and Niall and the rest of the crew

Wings, Lights, Backplates

This stuff is bulletproof and you don't want your gear to fail after a 2 year wait to get to Truk.

Decompression Planning

We used Deco Planner for our planning. The easy to use interface and the ease of changing the dive plan, gave maximum flexibility.

We used GFlo=10 AND GFhi=95 for our dives. This gave nice slow  ascents and kept the top stops nice and short.

The Gear

This was the first trip where I'd tried to implement everything I'd leant on quest, and I have to say this DIR system is everything its cracked up to be, when you apply the whole thing in one package as part of a team, the  sum of the parts is much greater than using only bits of it.

I also had a few reservations about minor points of the system such as where to place the clip on the Goodman handle. I used to have it behind the HID ballast as when i first put it on the handle, the ballast pulled down and shined the light in my face. However if your primary fails and you clip it off like this, you now have a light head hanging down to catch on things. You can also avoid having the light shine in your eyes by tucking the cord in the belt loop. By the end of 2 weeks,  I'd come to realize that 'George is right'.  I guess its time to re read some of his material again.

The camera table became an impromptu EE showroom.
The gas block.
Great dive lockers and tank racks.
Dive planning on the Aggressor. You will be chased around by the crew offering hot towels and cookies all day.
Niall gave a very detailed boat brief based on his three years experience.

Thankfully, he started each briefing with how to get into the engine room. Deep thrunging joy!
